Honoré de Balzac
I like French writers and it seems Balzac encompasses the whole lot. It’s only two books I’ve read though there are seemingly hundreds. His La Comédie Humaine is comic, I thought, filled with the grotesques of tragedy.
A Harlot High and Low, Eugéine Grandet
These are his two books I have stumbled upon in second-hand book shops. Eugéine Grandet was quite grey and miserly, while A Harlot High and Low was the opposite. More on Eugéine Grandet at dovegreyreader scribbles.
