John Williams
Augustus
Mostly written from the perspectives of everyone but Augustus, this wonderful novel by John Williams details the tremulous transition between the Republican government to the Imperial and continuing until Augustus’ death. The book is a very well written and somehow manages to evoke the atmosphere of ancient Rome so tangibly.
Stoner
This is a book for my classics list. A wonderfully simple novel about a the life of John Stoner, who was once a farmer and becomes a professor of literature. Nothing much happens, but at the same time so much about life, it’s depths and heights, are described.
