Marguerite Yourcenar
Memoirs of Hadrian
The prose of Memoirs of Hadrian is stunning. When I picked up the book I put it down just to be sure, is her writing real? Marguerite Yourcenar has captured the feel of the emperor Hadrian’s reign over his European and African empire so well that I am willing to believe her fiction is truth. Here are my impressions on the second reading.
