Get ready to write your college essay with this writing workshop designed to help you discover your unique narrative and set you apart. College essays are your chance to show admissions committees what makes you tick, but they can also be intimidating for so many reasons. In this workshop, we will demystify the college essay writing process, be exposed to the narrative structures of successful essays and begin to brainstorm your ideas using freewriting exercises. Come with a pen, paper and willingness to use your life experiences to demonstrate to your dream college who you are and why you should attend.
This workshop is best suited for rising seniors and juniors who want a jump start on next year's application season.
“The admission process of master’s degree programs has almost ended. I am so surprised and happy to receive multiple offers from different schools. There are admission letters from Columbia (MSCS), Cornell Tech (MEng CS), and Carnegie Mellon University (Master in Human-Computer Interaction, MS Software Engineering). The most exciting offer comes from UC Berkeley where the Master of Engineering Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences (MEng EECS) program has recommended me to enter the track of Visual Computing and Computer Graphics. This might be the most delightful thing I have experienced this year. I really want to say “thank you” at this moment. I will never forget our precious time together and your kindness during my application submitting process.”
“Thank you for the notes and for your help overall. I really appreciated how you were able to help me assess where edits were needed and I feel confident now with the rest of the assignment!”
“Prof. Paulen is a great teacher. She sincerely cares about her students and that they are learning through her instruction, and that they become better writers because of it. In the beginning of the course I felt that she may be going through the lectures a bit quickly, but I soon realized that it was a calculated strategy because the students all got more out of the other aspects of the course. The discussions, high-quality feedback, were all much more instrumental to my learning than any power-point presentation.”
“I think this class helped me improve my writing and that you put your all into the class and I appreciate you always being available to us to answer questions/help us out! I love when professors genuinely want to see us succeed in the class. Thank you!”
“Thank you so much, I wish I had the opportunity to shower you with my cup cakes…. really delicious and unusual. I’m not a great baker, but I love baking for special occasions. Thanks again…for every thing, your teaching and your loving care!!!”
